4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
We are all children of light. Some of us have woken up. We are sober. We understand that we belong to the day. We wear our faith, love, and salvation. Each of us must wake up to this. This is the purpose of life.
We are not of the night. Contrary to what many think, God did not bring us here to suffer or struggle. When we trust in the light and God's faith, we begin to understand that pain is not as necessary as we think. That we were brought here for gifts of salvation, for love, for abundance--we openly begin to seek them and appreciate them.
We no longer believe that others are of the night. We understand that they are merely asleep. Not one of us has a different heart than the other. Those who are asleep suffer because they operate in the darkness. Those who are asleep entertain the chaos rather than their light. They know not what they do and it is not with ease that they see the gifts that are here for us.
We are all light. One by one we will wake up to this truth. When you do, make sure to take that light and shine it on others. Help uplift those around you, not by guilt or harsh lessons, but with a gentle certainty that there is more life waiting for all of us to enjoy, not a select few.
