“Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Matthew 18: 21-22)
Every day we get up and every day, as good as we are, we do not reach perfection. We’re not perfect and we never will be. Despite our divinity, we are human. Despite this, God is constantly forgiving us. Over and over, he receives us with open arms. His forgiveness is unlimited.
The awareness of that has the ability to change us. To make us less fearful of being perfect and more inclined to enjoy the journey that he has gifted us with. Extend this peace to others. Invite others to leave the idea of perfection behind. If the Lord forgives us over and over, we should extend the same kindness and compassion to others. They, too, get up every day and do the best to their abilities. They do not reach perfection, but they still deserve to be loved and forgiven, as we are.
